Electricity Regulation
The Division is responsible for the formulation and implementation, as appropriate, of policy in relation to the liberalisation and regulation of the electricity industry.
The Functions of the Division include.
- Devising policy relating to the electricity sector.
- Implementing a legislative and regulatory framework for the electricity industry having regard to EU legislation and the development of an all-island energy market.
- Implementing further liberalisation of the electricity market.
- Advancing Irelands interests in the negotiation of European Union measures to develop electricity liberalisation.
- Implementing public service obligation legislation as appropriate in line with relevant EU regulations.
- Monitoring security of supply arrangements in conjunction with the CER.
- Managing the corporate governance of EirGrid.
- Managing the corporate governance of the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER).
