Broadcasting Charters

As part of a package of measures agreed in December 2002, it was agreed that RTÉ would operate under a Public Service Broadcasting Charter.
The purpose of the Charter is to explain the obligations place on RTÉ by national and EU legislation and to set out what RTÉ commits to, in terms of provision of services and accountability.
Submissions were received from some of the main players in broadcasting in Ireland as well as interested members of the public.
Minister Ahern will keep the Charter under review so that it continues to reflect change in the nature of Irish society along with changes in the broadcasting environment. A formal review of the Charter will be carried out in five years.
The Charter and Report on the Public Consultation Process are available below in Word or PDF format.
